  • Salt is a very stable compound but it does get clumpy when exposed to high summer humidity. Years ago, before anyone had AC in their home, we used to mix rice grains with our salt in the summertime. The rice would help prevent the salt from getting lumped up.
  • Unless it is contaminated by something, no, it doesn't go 'bad'. It can solidify or dissolve but it's always just salt. It can sit out n a dry lakebed for centuries waiting to be used in someone's pasta.
  • It's used as a preservative. Only if you get some moisture in it.
  • only with moisture, salt doesnt go bad tho, it just cakes up.
  • I don't think so..salt is used as a preservative for other things. Maybe if you've had a box of salt in the cupboard for 20 years, there may be some deterioration..but I've never experienced salt going "bad"! :)
  • The only thing that can happen that I know of is that if moisture gets into it, it gets rock hard. I've had this happen a time or two. Not fun.
