  • I was born and raised in Canada about sixty miles east of Detroit. That being said, you can see were my prejudices lie. Canadians live three years longer on average than Americans. We have universal health care. Everyone is treated equally and fairly. There is no such thing as being under insured. If you have a catastrophic disease you do not have to sell your house to pay for nedical care. Canada, on a recent international survey of healthiest countries to live, was rated in eighth place compared the United States' eleventh. Canadians are a little more relaxed than our southern neighbours. We do not hustle for a buck. If you were to ask a Canadian who lives in the States, he or she will tell you that the U.S. is a great place to make money but if you asked them were they would rather live, they would say Canada. Why? You could walk the streets of Canada after dark and not be mugged, shot or threatened, even in large urban centres such as Montreal, Toronto, or Vancouver. Also, there are no racial issues here. As a matter of fact, we have had two Governor Generals(a position second only to the Queen in Canada) that have not been white. One was ethnic Chinese and the other is a Haitian black; and, by the way, both are very beautiful women. When the United States has problems, Americans have a tendency to flee to Canada for refuge. Here is a brief list: Tories or as we call them here, United Empire Loyalists, Indians- Mohawks, Iroquois(6 Nations), Shawnee, etc.. Black slaves before the civil war, Hutterites fleeing persecution during and after the first World War because they were pacifists, and war resistors fleeing the Viet Nam war. Canadians have served as peacekeepers internationally with the United Nations. We are well respected on the world stage. No one really hates us. Of course, we have not invaded other countries.
