Probably for the same reasons a lot of non-Americans have negative attitudes toward Americans: a lot of people who think they are the only part that matters, it's a foreign culture to many of them, and that culture is exported to the rest of the (country/world) whether it's wanted or not.

i have no idea but just California on its own is one of the biggest powers California has the 5th largest economy in the world JUST California not including the US at all isnt that crazy?

Because it is the land of fruits and nuts. We are the fifth largest economy, but we have some of the worst roads, worst infrastructure, the most companies fleeing, the most inflation, the highest taxes and among the highest unemployment. California is a shining example of what liberalism has to offer. And if you are wondering, I do live in California.

Value system of California is not as conservative as the midwest. Foreign people seeing films think all Americans behave in this manner. Film industry influences young people also.

I'm one of those people stuck in California because of a job. I do not like it and here are a few reasons: the vast majority of people here have some sort of hidden agenda, you can't trust people here; you can't smile at a person walking down the street without that person thinking--does that girl want to sleep with me? Everything is a lot more expensive than the mid-west, probably everywhere except New York and South Beach in FL. When Californians travel in Oregon, Washington, and Colorado they give off an arrogant, "we're better than you" aura. They think we only eat weeds and tofu when we're not getting high :)

Probably because we tend to lean way too far to the left. We do strange things here that does not make sense to teh rest of the nation. For example, we have a law against everything, we tax our citizens to death, and we chase business's out of the state.
