Chuck Palahniuk said in an interview that he takes a sleeping pill with some sort of alcohol, I don't remember which, and he passes out. Anyway, yeah, it's probably safe, but you'll probably just fall asleep really fast.

Anytime that you mix two chemicals in your body you roll the dice. Now most of the time when you mix two things together nothing really happens. Other times you get what is called "synergistic effect" That is when the two chemicals meet in your body and hurt you. Now here's the bad part...

Every single person has a different body chemistry so there is no way to know for sure if something will be okay and near deadly for someone else. Use your judgement.

Sleep aids can be very dangerous to take with alcohol. While the relative amount (a six pack and a low-strength sleep aid) might not prove to be fatal, alcohol's depressive (depressing brain function) properties are additive to that of drugs that induce sleep. As such, an addition of a sleep drug to a system already saturated with alcohol could push a body from a "drunken" state, into something closer to "comatose" or even death if enough is consumed.

As a general rule, no drugs should be consumed at the same time as alcohol. If you seriously need to take something at the same time, make sure to check with a doctor to ensure there aren’t any other specific interactions.
