  • Thought it is an old superstition, i tend to agree with you. However, i'm not a superstitious person. A black cat may look scarier to some people, but i can't see the difference between a black cat and a gray one. I guess it's just old beliefs coming into play. I do have to say, comparing the superstition of the black cat to the discrimination of people based on their skin color is a bit far fetched in my opinion.
  • Well, this old superstition has its origin in the mistaken belief that witches/warlocks could turn themselves into animals, or that black cats were "familiars" that assisted them with evil spells. Fortunately, we have become better educated since the 1600s, and know that such talk is nonsense. I have never heard someone so bigoted as to say that a person of another race is bad luck. I'd say anyone who had to listen to such prejudice got more bad luck than any stranger of another race could bring. FYI black cats can be wicked cute. This is Diesel. >^..^<
  • Disagree. It's just a supersticion, and it's just a freakin cat. People buy them and refer to them by color all of the time. And trying to link black cats with African Americans is totally far fetched as well. With that sort of logic, you could make anything racist.
  • Thats crazy, but you got a point but only silly ppl think that way.
  • Personally, I have a houseful of black cats and I certainly don't think they bring me bad luck. In fact, they bring me lots of love and enjoyment. they saying doesn't bother me, it's just an old superstition/wives tail that you buy into or you don't -- it's your choice.
  • I have a black cat named Bella. She brought me the best of luck when I needed a little buddy to help me out, she was there then and still is. She's good luck.
  • Disagree. Black cats are considered "unlucky" because they're associated with witches. Now, realistically nobody really believes that anymore. Some may see a black cat and say "oh drats, bad luck for me" and laugh it off, but nobody - at least not a significant percentage of the population - would let black cats significantly affect their lives. A different colored person crossing your path and being bad luck is just as ridiculous, but it has no historical precedent to it, so it's just a stupid comment that makes someone seem racist. So they are both ridiculous, yes, but one has a background and is kind of fun to laugh along with.
  • i don't believe that black cats bring bad luck
