  • The color rings do not represent continents. Each country that partipates is represented by the colors from their flag to the colors of the olympic rings. Some countries have one color in their flag represented while others have all the colors in their flag represented.

  • The colours were chosen because, at the time of choosing, every existing country had at least one of the colours represented on their national flag. I believe that this is still the case, as I can't think off-hand of any country with an all-purple flag.
