    A douche bag is a piece of equipment for douching: a bag for holding the water or fluid used in douching (the word can also be used as a verb).

    A douche is a device used to introduce a stream of water into the body for medical or hygenic reasons, or the stream of water itself. The word comes from the French language, where its principal meaning is a shower. The word can refer to the rinsing of any body cavity but usually applies to the vagina.

    Of Couse "Douche" Bag has its Slang Meanings as Well:

    A douchebag is someone who is incredibly annoying. "Man that guy is such a douchebag!"

    Terms such as douchebag and douche are also popular derogatory terms of insult or ridicule in North America. These terms have become popular in the comedic media, and can mean a variety of different insults:

    Someone who is annoying, bossy or embarrassing.

    A "douche bag" is an actual item often used by women for "feminine hygiene." Somehow it has also come to be used as an epithet, generally by males towards other males. (I've never heard of a woman using the term that way.) Although I've never seen an actual definition of the epithet, it is clearly derogatory and very offensive.

    As for what a douche bag actually is:

    A douche is "a stream of water, often containing medicinal or cleansing agents, that is applied to a body part or cavity for hygienic or therapeutic purposes." Most commonly it refers to vaginal douching. Some women douche to cleanse themselves after sex (though it's not really necessary and is NOT an effective means of birth control, as some believe), or for general cleanliness (which isn't usually necessary and can actually cause problems).

    Although these days there are one-use commercial vaginal douches available in stores, there are also reuasable "douche bags" or "douche kits" available that were more widely used before the disposable douches became available. These items consist of some sort of bag or bladder that can be filled with fluid (usually water, ideally with 2 tablespoons of white vinegar per quart added for correct pH) that can be attached to an appropriate nozzle.

    Thus, perhaps calling a man a "douche bag" is, in essense, saying he's only good for cleaning up, particularly for cleaning up after some other man.

    They are bags (although now they come already mixed and in special containers) that can be filled with water or other cleansing and soothing liquids. They have a hose on them and they are hung up, and the woman inserts the nozzle into her vagina. The fluid in the bag flows down the hose and into the vaginal to clean it out well with whatever solution is in the bag.

    The bags are pretty much old fashioned today. In fact, most doctors now discourage douching unless they have a medical problem they feel would be helped by doing it.

    If a woman keeps good hygiene down there she probably doesn't need douches. Eating cranberry supplements, cranberries or drinking cranberry juice kills bad bacteria in the bladder and makes urinary tract infections less likely.
