Do you have colored blonde hair that has unwanted red or gold tones, or do you have natural blonde hair colored red, or do you have lightened hair that was then colored red? There is a HUGE difference!

If you just want to remove red or gold tones from blonde hair, use a shampoo with a blue or purple tint once or twice a week. ArtTec has a nice line of color shampoos, or KMS makes a great shampoo for blonde hair that protects the hair and takes out gold tones.

If you're trying to remove red color out of blonde hair, that is a much different beast. Color correction really should only be done by a professional. It will be a long and expensive process, but it's much better than the alternative of burning your hair or scalp. I've seen many a client come in with fried hair and a chemically burned scalp from trying to remove their own color.

The first thing the colorist will determine is if the color is removable. They will ask you what type of color is on there, e.g. store bought color, professional color, henna, vegetable dye, mineral dye, etc. It's really important to know whats on there, because some color is almost impossible to remove, like henna.

After the colorist evaluates your hair, they will probably give you a quote of how long it will take, how much of the color they will be able to remove, and the approximate cost. Expect to pay well over $100.

Also, don't be shocked if the colorist refuses to perform this service. They may want to wait until the color starts fading on it's own before beginning the removal process.

    Hope that helps!
