  • Yes. We put all paper products into an orange sack and all plastic products into a plastic bag (after being washed ofc). All bottles of pop and beer (including cans) we pay an extra "pant" for and when we return them to the shop we get that "pant" back. Glass and tins get put into carrier bags and carried down to the big bins outside the supermarket.
  • It isn't mandatory, no, but many recycle here. We personally recycle clear glass, paper, and cardboard. We also recycle the occasional plastic container, but in general, we try to keep those out of our house to begin with!
  • It's mandatory here in the Los Angeles area but it's not that tightly enforced. The city has mandated that we put our trash in large black containers, but I've never seen or heard of any authority inspecting those containers to ensure that they don't contain any recyclable material. I recycle all cardboard, paper (including envelopes) and paper board that is food-waste free, glass, paper bags, plastic bags, plastic bottles, tin cans, aluminum, and magazines.

  • YES! recycling is mandatory in Nova Scotia. We recycle paper products, and plastics. Collection takes place at curb side every other week. You must sort papers in one clear bag and plastics in another clear bag. There is also collection or Enviro Depots for paint, hazardous materials, computers, tvs, and other electronic items. We even have composting picked up every other week. You are not allowed to put food scraps in your garbage. We all have green bins, which were supplied to us when the program started, one large for outside and one small for inside. We can also purchase compost from this collection for a small fee, after it has been through a process, which is regulated.
  • It is not mandatory. I think the city actually hates it. I recycle paper, aluminum, copper, tin, glass, styrofoam, plastics, and anything organic ends up on compost.
