How can you justify the moral of shooting down a hijacked plane instead of it crashing into a target(if applies)? I know shooting it down will kill less people then hitting a target building, it's still a sacrifice, isn't there something better to be done

... lesser of two evils ... ... do not count deaths, count lives saved ... __________ It is a little difficult to just fly beside the plane and have an assault squad jump from their plane to the hijacked one to take it back ... much easier to just hit it with a missile.

great question. this is a modern adaptation of the run away cart problem- most people don't know if they themselves would actively shoot down the plane, but they're ok with others shooting the plane down. me, i'm not the kind of person that accepts that only two possible situations exist in a scenario. I would've been the guy that (probably futilely, (but hey, atleast i tried!)) fought back, and tried to regain control of the plane...

Sometimes the powers that be have to make those tough decisions. How would people have reacted if the US military had sucessfully shot down the planes on 9/11? I'm guessing they would have gone ape-shit. "How do you know they were going to crash into those buildings?" Justifying the morality of it is easy. Living with the decision is the hard part.
