I've been in them. They're cute and functional but I'd hate to drive them long distances and/or on the freeways of a reasonably sized town. Among other things a side blow would be fatal.

Saw one in Italy. I am 6 ft. 5 in. and weighe 245 lbs. No smart car here for me. Even if i could manage to place my body inside a smart car, in an accident, i would be stuck forever. Now, thats not very safe or SMART.

They're cute, but utterly useless. They are of course tiny by design, but with all that size and weight shaved off, you'd think that they would perform better at their primary mission: fuel economy. Instead, they turn in barely 40 mpg in a combined city/highway cycle, which for a car that small and that light with that little power, I find inexcusable. I get better than that in my bone stock 2007 Toyota Corolla.

I think they're a great way to save gas and help the environment and be more economical, but with as many giant vehicles on the road as there are if you get in a wreck its comparable to riding in a pop can.
