When it gets to the itching stage, don't shave it off or you'll never have a beard!

Be patient and don't shave. It could take up to a month to grow a beard.

just leave it alone and let it grow. keep it neat, no one likes a ratty face.

Good for you! It's always nice to have another in the brotherhood:) I've worn my beard most of my adult life (and some of my late teenage one). The itching is true - about a week in (it varies from person to person), the hairs are at that perfect length to itch, but it actually doesn't last long, and it will pass. The beauty of the beard is its simplicity - keep it clean (plain old shampoo works fine), a little brushing (if you like). Shaping and trimming (or not) is at your own discretion (I wear mine like a barbarian!), and you can look at Wahl trimmers, Merkur's mustache/eyebrow/etc. razor. Mostly what you need to watch is when you eat - use a napkin often, and check in a mirror when you're done. If you should happen to miss a little pizza sauce, simply tell whoever noticed it that you're saving it for later and they can't have it:) One tip I haven't tried but am going to is to wash my beard with baby shampoo - a friend of my Dad's has done this for years, and he says it untangles and makes soft. I hope this helps, and hang in there, your beard is your birthright!

Get some good electric clippers so that it is easy to neaten (when you feel like neatening it) and easy to shave off should you feel like shaving it off (Give yourself a number one with the clippers, then get out the razor). The good thing about beards is that you don't have to shave. Yay!!! Don't forget that.
