Not the way Buffy did it.

Yeah, pretty freaky, huh? It was an assignment when I read it in highschool (as a teen, when everything is about the future & all), and I was not only really bummed out but scared witless as well! "Biff. Biff? Simonize the Chevy, Biff!" The whole dark theme really put me off. But much later on I saw the great movie with Dustin Hoffman (I think) and then re-read the play. Like a lotta similar existential literature, there's definitely a big-time hopeful element in the story in that life's basic challenges, even one's very *identity* don't get any better/easier with self-delusion and screwed-up values. "Who, Biff?! Big football star! He's gonna be a big success! Oh, yeah, very well-liked everywhere he goes..." Payin' attention to who you are and where you fit (or fit yourself) in the world circumvents or rather, obviates this type of deal causing any "depression", no? We have the ability to choose. Thanks for the question. ;-)

No offense, but I will answer this with a resounding "duh". :) One of my favorites actually. I loved the PBS version with Dustin Hoffman and John Malkovich.
