  • Sometimes, yes. Not very often though.
  • Rule to live by: if it has teeth, it bites!
  • you bet they do
  • ohhh yes they bite and they can bite hard too~~~ OUCH!
  • they might
  • Do they ever! When threatened they do, also they tend to be very agressive towards other hamsters at times. As a personal anectode: I had a pet hamster and she had several babies of which we gave most away but kept a female one in the same cage. Weeks later they had some kind of conflict and the mother killed her. I know it's gross but we found the half-eaten body in the morning.
  • Yes , they can give a nasty little nip if that way inclined.
  • They are Rodents, by definition they bite. Any of an order (Rodentia) of relatively small gnawing mammals (as a mouse, squirrel, or beaver) that have in both jaws a single pair of incisors with a chisel-shaped edge
  • They can chew through a wall and bite your finger
  • One just bit me on friday and that lil sucker bit so hard that I was bleeding bad and my finger still hurts today...so YUP they bite!
  • Yes, and their bites can be rather fearsome. They have rather frightening teeth.
  • They sure can, and chew through all sorts of things, eat your phone cords:-)
  • Bite?! I was savaged by a hamster when I was at school. Someone let 2 hamsters out together to see if they would mate...mate? No...try to kill each other...yes. I came in the room and picked one up to seperate them, he bit into my finger and carried on gnawing until he had gone through the nerve, it felt like he was gnawing the bone! It took 6 months for the nerve to grow back together so that I could feel again....sorry long answer...the short answer is YES!
  • yes! and it hurt like hell!
  • It seems SO many people have been attacked by these dangerous animals that the should be added to the 'Dangerous Animals List' and licensed. LOL!
  • Sometimes they will lightly bite you (mine does that) but sometimes they might make you bleed (rarley, only if he/she gets mad)
  • they bite, but its worse if they poo on you
  • When you talk about shredding things, my gerbil shredded the solid wooden house I bought. Yes, hamsters bite if you don't handle them often enough. They tend to forget human touch. Whereas females gets aggressive when they're pregnant.
  • hello, all rodents bite from time to time, especially when theyre disturbed or scared,or if yove had food on your hands before you handled your hamster, theyll think your food and bite you!
  • yep, and it hurts!
  • Assuming they've teeth! ;-)
  • Ask this guy.
  • if you handle your hamster every day for about 20 minutes youll end up with a really tame little thing but if you dont invest a little time with it it will bite and will hate being held ,my advice is to get one about 6 weeks old ,that way it will really get used to being held from a young age and will enjoy coming out ,our hamster loves to be held and never bites
  • some do but the blach bears r the nicest
  • Those little midget ones can bite your finger off...so after too much of that we got rid of ours.
  • yes... i had one cling on to my thumb and bite down to the bone. hurt like hell...
  • yes, some hamsters bite hard, and some bite gently.
  • They can. Rodents as a rule have very strong jaws, but hamster jaws are like... on steroids. Ever wonder why they have such huge heads and snubby little faces (as opposed to the dainty tapered snout of a mouse or a rat)? It's to accommodate those jaw muscles! Mice almost never bite, rats can give a pretty nasty nip, but hamsters don't even nip... they bear down and PULSATE! But don't let that deter you... they actually make really sweet little pets and get very tame and cuddly if you take the time to handle them. So long as they are not sick or feeling threatened, you really have nothing to worry about -- those strong jaws more often get put to use cracking seeds and hatching daring escape plans from their cage! :)
  • yes they can draw blood, and they tend to hang on to your fingers id wear gloves when handling a hamster.
  • YES! i tried saving my little sisters, she was in the pantry and i went to grab for her and she bit me!!!! i threw her down and came damn near close to killing her and she ran under the stove. my best friends bf saved the rat and i have never touched one again.
  • If something about a hundred times your size trapped you in a corner, or tried to pick you up, you'd bite too!
  • Yes of course but will they? Unless the hamster is cage-territorial, had bad experiences, is woken up, your hand smells like food or you just seem to be bugging them then they shouldn't bite. As you get more experience with them they tend to bite less. In fact in the past 4.5 years I have had 21 hamsters and I haven't been bitten for 3 years! Hamsters as a general rule bite more often then any other pet rodent. Do NOT let this deader anyone because they make excellent pets if they are well taken care for.
  • they only bit if they smell food on your fingers, hope that this has helped xx if you have frigtened them (its for their defense.)
  • yes ... a hamster bite is widely considered amoung all on the animal managment corse at writtle college to be one of the most painfull bites one can resieve. the teeth of the hamster are not fixed like rats and mice are, enabling them to move slightly, and the bite itself, more often than not reaches the bone.
  • hamsters only bite if they are threatened or don't get any human contact. if you pick him up from the day after you get him everyday he won't.
  • Any animal with jaws can and will bite. The most common species of hamster, kept as pets are Syrian Hamsters aka Golden Hamsters. By nature they are solitary and in they wild they live in areas where resources are scare as such they tend to be aggressive. Get a pair of fancy rats from a reputable breeder instead. Rats can bite are social creatures and have been fully domesticated, so they are less likely to bite. They are also much more entertaining and easily trainable. Unfortunately their size makes and the size of their cages make them less appealing to many, along with the fear people have of rats.
