  • Yes, fishing for herring on the Delaware in an open canoe. The anchor got tangled around the stern turned us around and we flipped. The water was about 45 degrees and I went straight down because I had my waders on from getting the boat out. As I was sinking, I was trying to unclip the waders. Finally got them off and made it to the top gasping for air. The canoe wound up pinning us against a bridge abuttment and then the canoe broke in half. We were in the water for about a half hour until rescued by the Coast Guard, taken to the hospital and released. Kind of cool at the time. I was only about 13. Made the TV news. In retrospect, it was more scary than I thought at the time.
  • Kinda... Was pulling my brother who was skiing from the Lake Freeman Dam up to the bridges at Monticello. At one part, the "lake" (wide river, here) was REAL choppy. JUST as I slowed the boat, we went into a relatively deep trough and I swear we were one our side, at about 90 degrees for a second. Boat righted, we went back to pick up my brother and continued. On the way back, we slowed considerably at that part of the lake.
  • Not really. I did freak out once as a kid. =P
  • I was water skiing and go my arm tangled in the tow rope and was dragged for a while until the boat stopped. It didn't last long, but it seemed like minutes. I really thought I would drown.
