  • No it should be based on academic ability not how fast you can run!!! :)
  • Yes, each applicant should be a member of the human race.
  • Since I'm a white from a suburb in a good school with tons of high level courses and excellent grades, I'm actually at a disadvantage for college admission. It's really unfortunate because I'm not affluent enough to buy my way into college, I still have to work to get where I want. And the worst part is, that fact is disregarded. Yes, even middle class students don't have an easy ride into college. So, to answer your question, no, I don't think race should be regarded unless it's a private institution.
  • Yes. It is proven that when in competition to get into college, the minority populations are disproportionately excluded. But once in college, minorities perform equally as well as non-minorities.
  • Race should not be considered for college admission, tuition, scholarships or anything like that. If all the information on a potential student was written out with out seeing the face of the student acceptance can be based on academic standing and finanacial need. As diverse as our world is getting doors are being shut on people that they should not be shut on. Honestly, look on fastweb....how many scholarships are out there that are based on a person's ethnicity? If I have no ethnicity then I had better be a high academic achiever to get a scholarship.
  • Yes the white man is born with a huge advantage over all other ethnic and cultural minorities. This needs to be corrected through affirmaitve action.
  • In no way should ethnicity (race is an incorrect term) be considered for college admissions.
  • No, it compromises true merit or number of graduates. It discredits black graduates, no one will believe in them.
  • Race is considered for college admissions. and religion is considered. and age is considered. what isnt considered? maybe not all at the same school at the same time with the same people. are there any all white student schools?
  • Absolutely not.
  • in any form or way race discrimination must be avoided
  • There is one Human Race, one Family, one Love, one Humanity that binds us together. Now, which Race will we consider better than the other? We are all born equal and should be treated as one.
  • I think they should just make the basis "can you afford it?" If they did that, then it would get rid of all this bickering. The different scholorships could then be a non-judgemental group and the student-loan program could do the same and then it would just be the people willing to pay for college that would end up going to college. Who cares what the census says. The census is assuming everyone is going to college for the same reasons and is trying to graduate. Some people go just for the sake of learning something new. If it's in the 100 levels, and that person doesn't get a degree, the different reports show him as a college dropout. Who cares. Honestly...who cares? If people want to go, let them, if they don't want to, they won't. If they do want to, take their money and give them an education. It's a fair trade.
  • Personally I would think college admissions should only be based solely on meritocracy. However I am not against the decision to give consideration on the basis of race if certain ethnic communities really need the support and encouragement in this direction.
  • No not at all.
  • Not if it can be avoided. It is an extreme corrective that is appropriately used when other methods fail to balance a college's class. If Brown University for instance found its starting class was 100% white, that would indicate that their other methods used for balancing the class profile are not working.
  • Only if you were born in Kenya!
