Some can, but most dogs are color blind. Which doesn't mean that they can't distinguish colors as different shades of gray...

Yes, muted colours, mostly earth tones. Not black/white, as the common conception is.

as much as I try to divert his attention...... my dog sees food and is rather color blind because he eats things I would never think of... even after they started changing color... no.... no, bad dog, get out of the trash, rrrrgggg!

YES they do see lighter colors dimmer than we do and they do not detect any bright colors but do see them as a color but lighter than we would see it, because their eyes are set more for forward detection than ours due to the instincts for hunting but most other colors they denote same as we see them. I tried to put the link on but it would not let me. But this is what it said by Vets on line and I am happy to know that my dog can see colors, what a great question!

They can see in color, but the color spectrum they see in is very limited. Dogs see in blue, light blue, gray, light yellow, darker yellow (sort of brown), and very dark gray.
