Rule 7.08 - Runner Is Out * 7.08 (a) (3) - Slide or Avoid Runner is out if no attempt made to slide or get around fielder with ball waiting to make tag. NOYFB gave you the rule reference for Little League. A runner never has to slide. No national organization has a "must slide rule." Most require the runner to slide, go around, or attempt to avoid. Some local Little Leagues have been known to adopt such a rule. It is invalid.
