  • I don't even know what durian is, so I guess my mind is right!
  • "Tastes like Heaven, smells like Hell" is the saying. To me, tastes like natural gas, smells like Hell.
  • I thought it tasted like fish when I tried it. I don't like it but some people love it. One person said it tastes like a dry pancake when it's a good one.
  • What's Durian? I've never heard of it before...
  • People in Thailand? I am not a fan of it myself and recall that a woman I worked with brought some into work and we all got to go home early that day due to the smell. Bleghh.
  • Well, if people are not in their right minds while eating it, there are 600 million South East Asians, and this lone Aussie are crazy, because we love it. The durian grows in the forests of South East Asia, but is also cultivated. It is a large thorny-skinned fruit, inside of which are several large custardy segments with seeds. It is the outside of these segments which is eaten. The durian is one of the few fruits which contains protein. When it begins to ripen, it begins to ferment, producing the gases of fermentation. That is when you know when to pick them. So, the most obvious sign of durian presence is the smell, which is like entering a brewery. Get past that smell, however, and you can, and it is the most wonderful tasting fruit you could ever experience. Wild animals also love them. They are one of the staples of orangutan, and the protein passes into the breast milk of the mothers, helping the babies to grow. Don't listen to those who scream about the smell. Get past it. It isn't THAT bad. Taste the flesh. You will get hooked, like me. I go to Bali in Indonesian each year to check on orphanages I help support, and, if the durian are in season, I have to eat one. YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMM. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durian
  • My mom has mentioned eating that fruit in the past. She grew up in the Philippines.
  • Well, the smell of most Italian cheeses like Romano and Parmesan are really pukey if you think about it. I love it, I eat it every day. So I guess Durian is like that, but I don't think I need to try it.
