  • For an Officer it is the GENERAL OF THE ARMY For an enlisted soldier it is SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE ARMY & of course the President is the commander in chief has full control over the US military
  • I think it's Major General which I think is a 4-star rank. I think the Army Chief-of-Staff is a 5-star position. I was way off: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Army
  • both questions are actually right, but..... General of the army (5 star general) is onlyy assinged during war. A General (4 star) is the highest officer during times of piece.
  • Actually, the highest possible rank in the U.S. Army is "General of the Armies". While it was created for George Washington, he never held the rank while he was alive (it was granted posthumously). The only living officer ever to hold this rank was John J. "Black Jack" Pershing, who was granted the rank by congress on September 13, 1924. While he was authorized to create his own rank, he never wore more than four stars (though he did wear gold stars instead of the silver worn by those holding general rank).
  • alot of people would say 5 star aka general of the army but there is no such thing as a 5 star general anymore cause of the power they have so the highest rank for a service member is the highest ranking appointed 4 star general now for more advice in depth look the highest rank would be the president of united states of america aka commander and cheif
  • The highest ranking in the U.S Army is General of the Armies of the United States it was never given an Insignia is 4 gold starts instead of four silver stars
