People are living longer and longer. This pushes more competition into the job-market and especially into the usually younger areas like the service industry. If you are looking for real money, the only way to beat out the seasoned veterans in this economy is to trump them with your age. The veterans have to compete with you because you can learn better and you aren't a health liability. What you lack in experience, you make up for in youthful brainpower and new ideas. And yes, this will change eventually, but the minimum wage has a nasty habit of staying low despite the cost of living. It will change the most for those with a college degree or technical training of some sort.
