Is it proper for a family member to give another family member a baby shower? I was taught that friends gave showers and the only time a family member gave another family member a shower, only family was invited. Has this changed?

Every shower I have been to was given by family members. Sometimes friends would co-sponsor them, but family was always involved.

I've never heard that. In fact most of the showers I've been to have been given my family members and these were all kinds of weddings. I even went to one that a grandmother gave for her granddaughter. It was great with all sorts of sge groups. Had a terrific fun time, lots of laughing:-)

I have heard of this rule of etiquette for bridal showers but I have not heard of it for baby showers. These restrictions are kind of antiquated, though. I wouldn't worry about them if you are planning or attending a shower of any kind.

Hmmmmmm....that's news to me. That's a social nicety I've never heard of. I've attended showers given by family and showers given by friends....and I think both are equally acceptable...

All the baby showers that I have been to are hosted by the woman's family. Then all family/close friends are invited. There will usually be a seperate work shower for coworkers only.
