Yes, about $7,000. http://www.sibfox.com/ is a distributor for the Siberian farm owned by the Institute of Cytology and Genetics. The institute has domesticated this strain of silver foxes over the last 50 years and have learned much about the roll of behavior in genetics through this research.
Pup sales are pretty much the only way they fund the research now. Foxes are less expensive directly from the farm, but sibfox deals with all the transport for you. Actually, I would much rather visit the farm in person.. and people are welcome to contact and tour the farm... but it's in Siberia, Russia.
The research is in jeopardy due to lack of funding, and the number of fox at the farm has been greatly reduced. It would be a shame to loose 50 years of genetic and behavioral research. It's like a donation. ;) Who needs a pet fox?

No. There are only a limited number of tame silver foxes and they are very expensive - on the order of $2,000 US plus another $1,350 for transportation to the US and official registration. They are bred in the Siberian city of Novosibirsk. If you're interested in buying one, contact Oksana Shpak at the Institute for Cytology and Genetics of the Russian Science Academy. Here is their site in English: http://www.bionet.nsc.ru/bionet/bionetEngl.php?folder=applied&paper=appliedDomestikatciya I'd hate to see these wonderful animals get snapped up by collectors who neuter them - they are a great example of how generations of selective breeding can create a pet from a wild animal and I hope that the Russians and others continue to breed tame foxes.

Ha, what a joke. People buying wild animals. The human race is disqusting! We think we can just own anything, its ridiculous. And that whole humter gatherer thing was the most stupidest thing I have ever heard.

Domesticated, captive-bred and captive-raised red foxes (red and silver are the same species, just different fur patterns) are indeed available in the US. You can find a wide variety of patterns from natural red, black, silver, and cross to patterns that only show up in domestic foxes like the marbled fox, and a pattern I don't know the name of that looks just like a border collie.

You'll need to look into state laws on fox ownership though, some states don't care but some require licenses and others don't allow it at all. I know of a forum where you can talk to other fox caretakers and even find a breeder in your area.
