I got the nickname 'leopold' (which I now use almost everywhere on the internet) in my year 10 german class. Our teacher told us we had to pick a name that originated in a german speaking country, so I picked Leopold (Austria). I then became so accustomed to saying 'Leopold' that saying my real name in german didn't feel right, and everyone in my german class also called me Leopold, so it started from there.

Thank God I do not have a nickname. I do not like nicknames.

When I was in the Army in Korea many of the local people said that I was big like a bear (6'5 - 200 lbs), so they gave me the nickname Bear. Since I got out in 83 I have gained weight and much hairier...I am still 6'5" when I stand straight up and now way 281 lbs. My friends here first started out keeping my nickname that I was given in Korea, but for the last 10 years it has been changed to Grizz. They claim I look more like a Grizzly instead of just a plain ole bear.
