Don't do it. You don't want damp, rotting wood. Hire somebody cheap (like a neighborhood kid) to do it for you.

If you go to the hardware store, you can get a really good mesh. This will cover the gutter (and spouting too) but let rain and water get through. Its a cheap and simple way to get out of a professional doing it.
