Having gone through this myself,my best advice is to get the child into therapy as soon as possible. This is a trauma that can deeply scar a child, possibly for life if not handeled properly. The only other thing anyone can do, is allow the child to express their feelings at his/her own pace, don't crowd the child{ie...hug and kiss} unless the child initiates it,as this could bring unwanted memories to surface.Be gentle when talking to the child, yet firm.Do not allow misbehavior to go unchecked as an excuse of the trauma, children need consistency above all else. Love, understanding and gentle disipline is the best thing as well as professional therapy!

First make sure that they know that what happened to them was not their fault. They did nothing wrong. Then give them lots of love. Tell them how much they are loved. Show them how much they are loved. Make sure they know that they are loved. They will probably need some type of counselling to go along with all of that love.

I would rely on an expert to guide me..I would have no idea what to do and I wouldn't want to "mean well" but do the wrong thing..that would be devastating to the child as well as to me! :(
