I've spent some time in the UK, and a lot of time in the USA. My S/O is British, it's something we talk about a lot. - The UK is generally a more tolerant society: i.e. same-sex couples are granted legal status, there seems to be a lot less racial tension and xenophobia, etc. - The UK is MUCH more expensive to live in. Basically, almost everything costs about twice as much as in the U.S., after adjusting for exchange rates and salaries. I can make about the same amount of money there if I get a similar job, but with the high cost of living the lifestyle would be much lower. - The UK has a richer set of social services available to the poor. While it's common to see homeless people wandering the street in any major U.S. city, it's fairly rare in my travels to the U.K. - The UK is uniformly COLD! I live in So. Cal., where the weather is nice most of the time, it's generally a shock to find that London is still cold in April (and May, and June...) Of course, the U.S. has plenty of very cold places, but if you want warmth you can move. There's no place in the UK where you can move to get warm. - People are more polite in the UK, it's a cultural thing. However, my general impression is the politeness is often a veneer that covers covert annoyance. Would you rather have someone who doesn't like you and is polite, or someone who doesn't like you and is up-front about it so you know where you stand? I guess that's a matter of personal taste and cultural conditioning. I wouldn't call either country "fantastic", I think they have their strengths and their weaknesses, probably the same can be said for all countries.

According to recent studies both are real.

I'd have to say neither. It would be Canada. But I am Canadian so I guess I am biased, too.

well i live in ireland so i'll pick my next door neighbour the uk :D

I visited the UK a few years ago & really liked it. I'm American. Some parts of the US seem more foreign than the UK did, so it would be difficult to make a broad choice. I like some parts of the US better than the UK & some parts less than the UK.

I am sure they both have their good and bad points but I will stick with my own country.
