  • Many people are not in their state on Election Day. For them, in order to vote, they must use an absentee ballot.
  • I use an absentee ballot because being in college, I don't have time to travel all the way home just to vote, and It's not worth the effort to re-register at a local voting station.
  • Furthermore, elderly people who are unable to drive or unwilling find it much easier to submit an absentee ballot and fulfill their duty.
  • So you're saying that an absentee balot is equivalent to not voting?
  • Well, if you're not going to be able to vote in person, there really isn't any other way.
  • i used it in college. if your primary residence (home) is a swing state, why would you use your vote in a state(college/whatever)that no matter what will go blue or red. the vice versa applies too. Also now a lot of people get absentee ballots to commit voter fraud. i had a friend at school that voted at school and sent in an absentee ballot for home.
  • I know people that move to Florida from Indiana for the winter. If they leave before the elections they will use the absentee ballot. There are people in rehab centers/nursing homes that cannot get to the polling booth. THEY will use them. I use a scooter, and my polling place, while supposedly ADA compliant, doesn't quite work easily for it. (See http://www.orangefrogproductions.com/ofp2o_auth_ops_handicappedvoting.shtml ) I've been told to go to the courthouse, but they use "switchbacks" on their ramps, and while that may work for a wheelchair, I think it will be difficult to use with my scooter. The only other option would be absentee ballot. Soldiers in Iraq. I'm sure there are more.
  • 1. College Kids 2. The elderly and the sick 3. ANYONE traveling during that time... the world does not stop for the election. 4. Our armed forces. 5. People that own a second home and aren't at their main residence at the time. There are probably more... I've used one in the past at college and my grandma uses the absentee ballot because she is elderly and currently bedridden.
