  • Well, the breed I'm thinking of does shed, but they're short haired. Look up Doberman Pinschers, big dogs. They are smart, loyal, look amazing. But a playful dog goes from dog to dog, not by breed.
  • Jack Russell Terriors. Small, short heaired, don't shed, good with kiddies.
  • My folks have a Rhodesian Ridgeback that's about 8 years old and still very playful and very much a puppy. He's a great dog but they're hunters by nature and don't like other animals.
  • a hotdog?
  • Non-shedding? Even non-shedding dogs shed somewhat, but what size of dog are you looking for? As for playful, do remember that dogs are as varied as people, but if you train them properly as pups you should come out with a lovey, playful mate. Here are my suggestions by size; give me some more info on what you're looking for/what you can handle and I'll update as we go! Toy - Not recommended if you want to tussle with your dog. Small: + Basenjis do not bark, but rather "yodel". Shedding is minimal, but they are a cautious dog and almost cat-like. + Jack Russel Terriers are good though a dominant breed. + Beagles are super-friendly, easy-going and like to play. They are gentle and loving, but will shed somewhat (short coat however). + West Highland Terriers are a good, solid Scottish breed with a veracity and a vitality that make them fun dogs. They do shed, however, as they have a double coat. Medium: + Labrador Retrievers can be manic, but they absolutely adore running and playing. They are generally super-hyper and require alot of training from the get-go, but they're jovial, good with kids, and shed only moderately. They also love a good swim. + Border Collies are even more playful. They are common agility dogs, smart, steadfast and quicksilver. They are long of coat, however, but with good training they are wonderful companions. + Boxers are playful as well, though they can be a dominant breed and require careful supervision. They can be very headstrong; you must establish a proper relationship early on. + Dobermann Pinschers, though intimidating, are quite good-natured dogs. They have minimal shedding and an easy temperament, and have no qualms chasing down a good ball. + German Shorthaired Pointers are quite a fun breed as well, a hunting dog with hunting tendencies but a fondness for a good play and tussle. They are loyal and fairly low-maintenance fun. + Standard Poodles (or poodles of any size) are extremely intelligent. They are a bit more refined, but still playful. They shed little but require the occasional trip to the groomers. They need to be entertained. + Rottweilers, when trained properly, do love a good romp. They take some experience in dog handling, but will stand by your side through anything! + Springer and Brittany Spaniels are gundogs who just love a good swim or an old frisbee! They are longer of coat, but alert, active, lively dogs. Large/Giant: Generally do not recommend, as they are hard to care for and most shed/slobber, but some of my favourite dogs are here. Be aware high cost/high health risks. + Burmese Mountain Dogs are long-coated, but strong, powerful playing machines (I want one). They have their calm moments as well, and a certain charm that makes them true characters. + Olde English Sheepdogs need a strong personality to follow, but they are bright herders who will play with you until their great fluffy legs simply give out :P. They are intelligent as well, and need stimulation. There are SO many more dogs than I've detailed here! Hold on, I will find you a good resource... http://www.dogsindepth.com/dog_breed_size_chart.html Ask me any questions about any breed you find and I shall happily indulge you with any knowledge I have! Or tell me if any of the above dogs interest you and I can either give you greater depth or suggest similar breeds. This list is but a smattering. Lastly, go to your local shelter and see what's there; maybe you'll find a suitable friend! Mongrels and surrendered purebreeds in shelters need loving homes and believe me, they will thank you for the honour! (Please do not purchase a dog from a pet store!)
  • Miniature Schnauzer. They don't shed, they're very very playful and energetic, small dog = small poop, and small dogs live longer.
  • Wire Hair Terrier.
  • Dashund. Small, short hair, lively. The weiner dog.
