This is commonly done by the working class in order to force an excused absence resulting in a three day weekend. That way we can pay our respects with due ceremony and reverence while still preserving the sanctity of the weekend for Nascar, ball games and just generally party on dude! "See ya Tuesday boss, it's gonna be hard, but I'll find a way to get through it."

Some for religious reasons are not embalmed, so the body needs to go in the ground as soon as possible.

Why not ? In any case crematoriums are busy. Every weekday they do up to 16 burns, and they dont do weekends

Does it really matter, my best friend was buried last Monday and I don't think anyone really cared what day it was.

I have been to funerals on everyday but Sunday. Wakes are on everyday of the week.
