It sounds like you have not connected (or jimmied) the "safety" cable to your e-brake/handbrake. As a result, you can't use your shiny new player until you've bent over and taken up the rear by the law makers. Read the manual for details. "Oh my gawd! Did he just told me to read the manual!?!"
