Is it considered bad form to answer a question you've posted yourself to Answerbag? Does it matter even if the answer is just a matter of opinion?

    Sometimes, especially in certain categories, there is a point that some one wants to make or a misconception that someone wants to clear up, but there isn't an appropriate question to use for this. In such situations, the person may ask the question himself so that he can give the correct answer. I have seen this technique used most in the religion section.

    I don't think so. Half of the joke section and 90 % of the video section come from people answering their own questions. On opinion questions you might say something like " my own view is ...... please tell me yours". As an example, if someone wants to know my favorite song, it's only fair they let the rest of us know what their's is.

    I think that it is sometimes needed, and is not uncalled for on some opinion questions.
