A painful way to stop your habit would be to slap an elastic on your finger every time you do that, and soon, you would stop because your body doesn't like the pain. Or, you could put some hand-cream, or anything gooey on your lip so every time you touched your lip, you would think "ew!" and pull your hand back. That works, but it can sometimes look funny to have some goo on your lips :). The easiest was is to catch yourself in the act, quickly stop, and tell yourself, "STOP IT!!!!" (Please rate my answer so I can learn to better answer questions) thanks!

well you could put something on your hands that burn your lips but that would be a little harsh. But if i truely wanted to stop i would put something like lip gloss on my lips and make them feel all smooth. Or everytime you feel like it look at how appealing your lips are and you'll be like dangg i aint messing up these babies! lol ...hope it helped...

Force yourself to look in the mirror as you do it. I am the worlds most hardened lip picker, to the point where when I was younger my parents bandaged my hands up and followed me round to make sure I kept the bandages on, just until my lip healed a bit. My lips were really infected and swollen at the time, but nothing or nobody could make me stop. Looking in the mirror as I do it generally makes me think twice about it, seeing the damage I'm creating in real time rather than just the before and after results can be quite off putting. It takes away some of the satisfaction I get from doing it, and helps to break the cycle. Also, as you do it, tell yourself all the reasons why what you're doing is damaging and wrong. After a few times of picking your lip and doing that, the satisfaction from the action goes because you have negative associations with picking your lip. If you're picking your lip because you're stressed or worried (as I often do), then try talking with somebody about how you feel, and try to work out ways that can make you less stressed/worried. in the long term, this can help to stop you from picking your lip, because it addresses the root cause.

Sellotape your fingers together. This also helps with many other habits, but not when going to the loo

Overome lip picking in a week! First, you have to WANT to quit. Here's some motivation: lip picking looks disgusting. You may not realize it but people could be watching you when you are picking your lips, they won't want to talk to you after that! If you set your mind into quitting for ONE WEEK you can be done for LIFE. I was an avid lip picker for three years, and it got to the point where I would feel anxious and OCD if I didn't pick my lips at least once a day. I was so embarassed when pictures were taken at how chapped and swollen my lips looked, so I decided to quit for good, and this is how: I invested in a semi-expensive tube of chapstick (try one with vitamin E protection from The Body Shop) for $5. Normally I would never pay that much for a tube of lipstick... which is the trick. I lathered it on when I got home and soon enough, I was feeling the urge to pick. I was able to resist though because all I thought about was how I paid $5 for my chapstick and I wasn't going to waste it! That day, I reapplied chapstick every 30 minutes. The next day my lips were looking great, but I still had the urge to pick. I did the same routine, reapplying every hour this time. For one week I did this, applying the chapstick less and less. Sure enough my lip picking days were over! The key is to find something, expensive chapstick, that you would ruin if you picked your lips. Then let your guilty conscience end your picking days once and for all!

I have this habit also and I even pick the dry skin around my nails. I hate that I do this and want to stop. Keeping my lips and hands moisturized is what I'm going to try. I've been reading about this and some people have suggested using vasoline continuously and at night to allow the dry skin to heal. Hope this helps.
