Trench and was first explored in 1960 by Swiss scientist Jacques Piccard & US Navy Lt. The first two people to descend to the deepest known point of the oceans, in the Marianas Trench, were Jaques Picard and Donald Walsh in the bathyscaphe Trieste on January 23 1960.
