  • I would recommend discovering the root cause of the problem and going from there. Do you live in a high altitude area with low air pressure? Athletes from cities closer to sea level usually have a hard time breathing and getting enough air in areas high up in the mountains, and this can cause a blackout. Does it happen when you are doing other activities or just running? Is your blood pressure normal? Having a low blood pressure can cause you to blackout or pass out after strenuous activity. I can vouch for this since I take medication to lower my BP and one time I took too much. All I had to do was stand up too fast and I blacked out. Talk to your physician to discover the cause of it and that will get you one step closer to understanding why it happens and how you can keep it from happening. If you get yourself in control of it, there is much less potential for you to be afraid of it.
  • It sounds like the pass out you experience has triggered a phobia or anxiety disorder related to your running. CBT or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy by a Psych doctor is a GREAT way of killing fears. It usually only takes 10 weeks until you are cured. Look it up on the net, there's plenty of info re CBT.
