I work at an ice plant, we have situations where customer ice box breaks down & we have to fix it and replace, free of charge, the ice that melted. Do you think it is ludicrous for a customer to ask for something in writing to verify we will replace ice?

Actually, no. Many company's will say something like, "We will replace the ice". But if something happens and the people need the ice replaced, then they don't have to unless they gave that person it in writing. Because, without it in writing, the customer could take the company to court and they could not prove they would replace the ice without it in writing.
