A helicopter just flew overhead and a thunderstorm started. Is this cause and effect?

No, purely a coincendence. I'm not a physicist, but I don't think inducing thunder or rain is part of the capability of any helicopter. . Although, I have heard that there is a certain chemical, called Silver Iodide, which, when deployed from an airplane into clouds, can indeed induce rain - it's still experimental though.
