  • Either the battery isn't holding a charge or the alternator & voltage regulator isn't putting out enough charge. There is too much usage for the engine to run with the lights on but without the lights on there is enough. A parts store should be able to test the battery and alternator for free.
  • hello dave thank you for your answer i have had alternator tested charging at 13.85 volts and 13.75 with head lights on the alternator looks old just bought vehicle 2 weeks ago battery look newish
  • you are on the right path, check the cables to the battery & the ground strap on the engine block - something is loose
