Black people are black because they have more melanin. A very dark person has about as much extra pigment as is found in two inches of pencil lead. Melanin is a very useful chemical which not only blocks harmful ultraviolet, it also protects against disease, which is why it is found in many tissues that the sun rarely shines on. Insects have lots of it. Black soldiers in the Pacific war got skin diseases at only one third the rate of white soldiers. Blackness also helps the skin to radiate internal heat faster (radiators are painted black, not white). Blackness is a superb adaptation to tropical conditions; without it, one has to wear clothing from head to foot as Arabs do.

Color was not the topic so melanin and its functions were not elaborated on. My answers highlighted the "cooling" properties of blacks. However, your answer is accurate.

Thanks. And thanks for telling these people that curiosity is not racist. I've been curious about this kinda stuff for years.
