  • I'm not easily scared, but the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre terrified me. It has to be the original too. Nowdays new horror films suck, there isn't anything scary, just cheap jumps. The TCM is a true story, and the original is based on a survivors retelling. The terrifying thing about it is that it's true!
  • the birds always scared me.. lol. but in reply with your advice.... its true that you can really watch any scary movies that arent R. i went to lady in the water and it was pathetic... just like the village
  • Last House on the Left!! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068833/ There are also loads of great movies in the Italian gore genre, you should check out movies by Lucio Fulci, Ruggero Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust is a classic), Umberto Lenzi etc. You can see where modern horror movies steal all their ideas from!
  • for what it is worth, the movie Ghost in the darkness was scary and true,
  • There's a British film called Paperhouse that scared the living daylights out of me..try it.
  • Some of the old Vincent Price movies (such as The House on Haunted Hill) are quite scary. You have to remember they are very much of their time, but suspend your modern desire for flawless special effects and enjoy. Some of the Hitchcock films (such as Rebecca) are also quite chilling.
  • Go see a stephen king book made to movie, like Taken not really horror however, or It, Christine, Needy things (not sure title is right). A good classic is Carrie.
  • Well, you could watch the exorcist. I have to warn you though because it is VERY DISTURBING. It'll creep you out for a couple days or so =S. Another one you could watch is the shining with Jack Nicholson. creeepy...
  • Have you seen "The St. Francisville Experiment"? This is about the New Orleans' Lalaurie House. Another one worth watching is "The Last Broadcast". enoy!
  • THE OMEN 666. It wasn't that scary but, mysteriously satanic.
  • I thought that the texas chainsaw masacre was based on ed gein? he never really killed people with chainsaws but he did have sex with dead bodies... hahaha
  • High Tension. This movie is gruesome and blood is EVERYwhere. The plot doesn't suck, which is a great plus-side to it. I highly reccomend it to anyone that loves scary movies.
  • well i know this isnt exactly a scary movie but in the Passion of the Christ there is this one part its either when jesus is getting beaten or curcified that it shows some lady holding a baby in her arms and it like is some demon baby... Idk if anyone knows what im talking about but it was absolutely hideous and freaky....

  • Have you rented any of the Saw movies? They are scary but also very sick and disturbing. I like scary, but Saw is a little too sick. depends on your type if you would like it.
  • The Shining The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (The original). Halloween and Halloween 2 and Halloween H20. The Descent The Exorcist Joyride The Silence of the Lambs Jacob's Ladder The Blair Witch Project The Ring The Hitcher (The original). Nightmare on Elm. Street. Jeepers Creepers Pet Semetary The Thing (80's version). I know i'm forgetting some great ones...
  • Hey okay one that freaked me out is the grudge. you can try the 6 scene
  • Dead Birds is a pretty good movie. You just have to be quite and pay attention. It is a lot better when there are no people talking and it is dark.
  • Session 9 is pretty scary and kinda freaky too. Don't watch it in the dark...
  • Go Italian. Romero, Lenzi, Fulci... Or, check out the OLD horror films - black and white, as close to the original as you can get: The Phantom of the Opera silent film from... 1921 I think. Nosferatu. Vincent Price and Alfred Hitchcock movies... Many times, it's what isn't explained to you that's the most frightening.
  • This is a trend in scary movies since many seem to be low budget. I'd recommend trying the new release section. I notice many more of those are interesting. The Eye and The Skeleton Key are great movies.
  • i thought the rob zombie halloween was pretty good. not totally scary but a solid movie
  • The Ring and Room 1408 scared the crap out of me - both PG-13 though, so if you want gore, those don't have it. But they have the psychological stuff down. Also, Event Horizon - it's marketed as sci-fi, but is like a horror movie in outer space - I had to watch all of My Fair Lady after watching that. It's also got some pretty gross parts, if you're into that. The first Saw movie was really great - again, if you're into the psychological horror stuff.
  • Try looking for Japanese horror films. They rely more on "mental scares" rather than blood & gore. A lot of the recent big budget horror flicks in America were remakes of Japanese horror films. "The Ring", "The Grudge", and "Dark Water" just to name a few. I'm trying to find the Japanese version of Dark Water now, because it terrified me, simply the looks and the tension. They have suspense that makes you scare yourself, over the blood-n-gore American versions that treat you as if you're too stupid to understand what's going on.

  • That's because mainstream horror is often restricted, and this goes for a lot of classics, just as much. If you want to see really scary and disturbing movies, you need to explore the underbelly of the horror genre. Street Trash, Basketcase, Deadalive/Braindead, Bad Taste, Blood Sucking Freaks, or go for foreign horror, Cannibal Holocaust, Frontiers, High Tension, The Ordeal, Inside. I'm forgetting a whole lot, these are just the ones that have left an impression on me. If PrimeTap comes around, maybe he can suggest plenty of good Asian horror flicks. You just gotta dig a little deeper to find some of these, but they're worth it.
  • i think the moview creep was a lil bit scary but the best film is called good try not many people have heard of it but it is a brill film and so scary
  • Have you heard of "Quarantine"? Well, it's a supposedly a scary movie based on a really scary one called REC. Watch REC. It's in Spanish but you can find it with subtitles.
  • Jaws is still the scariest movie ever.
