All airlines offer "standby" travel of some sort. If a flight is oversold, the gate agent will usually ask passengers to be voluntarily bumped from the flight and be placed on standby for the next flight.

It depends what you mean by standby....sometimes airlines will allow you to standby for an earlier same day flight....but this is changing and most airlines will now not allow it..unless the flight that you are booked on is oversold and then they may try to move you earlier.....Airline employees can travel standby on any flight that they want...if it is an IATA carrier(which most airlines are)...I worked for an airline for 31 years in Canada
