It's called 'moderation points': the turbocharger of the AB elevator.

I think of points kind of like a snowball...when I firsty joined AB it took a lot longer to get them. But now, I still get more points on my old questions and answers :) SO some activity from months ago may get me upwards of 100 points per day, and then my regular daily activity.

If you're here enough, it isn't that hard. I've only been on for a couple of hours and have over 180 for today. Many of these probably came from old answers that have been revisited by new users.
