  • Some of the best talk shows here in Michigan are still on AM Radio;)
  • I do, generally to talk and news. I miss the days of the great AM top-40 stations, though. (Of course I am dating myself by saying this). KHJ, Ten-Q, KFRC ... amazing stations. No one does good radio any more.
  • Yes...there is still a good music station that I can usually get, though its signal is not the strongest and sometimes fades in and out. But it is nice music that is not available on the FM stations here.
  • I do. I am not a fan of music so AM suits me.
  • Very rarely. The last time was last summer when I wanted to listen to a minor league baseball game's broadcast.
  • I listen to AM radio as a hobby. AM radio listening can be a hobby. All you have to do is tune into a radio station for example that's on 880 AM and use your radio to rotate the internal AM ferrite rod antenna for best possible reception at night. The propagation depends of the weather, solar activity, and skywave propagation. AM radio has been used for micro power (part 15) for to transmit your mp3 player. Then there is Low Power 10 to 40 watt radio broadcasts that's for small radio stations for travelers information. Then there is non commercial and commercial broadcasters that are in the middle of the AM band that broadcast music, commercials to get listeners and publicity that runs from 1kW to 50 kW. In Europe the LW band is for domestec broadcasting that broadcasts on a continental to worldwide coverage using 50 kW to 2.5 MW. And MW broadcasts the same as the US, but cover most of the other countries with 10 kW to 500 kW. I have been listening to AM since I was a kid, but now DX with it. Still useful until HD radio takes over completely and will be going all digital.
