It's not the end of the world, it's the end of the Mayan calender cycle. The world doesn't end when the Gregorian calender recycles every Dec. 31, and it won't end in 2012.

The mayans never said that the world would be destroyed in 2012, that is just where the calendar ends. Do you think that they might have just gotten tired, well guys we will write the rest later right after we conquer north america. Atlantis, was a place but not the place that the media dubbs it, it was advanced yes, but advanced for 9000 years ago or when ever was not flying machine and space warps. I believe that we will find atlantis, but there will be alot of skeptics, even now they are in the belief that it was the isle of san torini in the aegean.

If you believe that major events will occur in 2012 and you believe in Atlantis, then it would make sense that these events cycle in which case these events could be the same events which destroyed Atlantis.
