His Brother Raul is in charge at the moment.

His eldest son married a Russian woman in the 1970's while a student in the Soviet Union, and they had two daughters. When they divorced she took the girls to live in Spain where their grandmother, (Castro's first wife) lives. Castro remarried a woman named Dalia Soto in the early 70's and has 4 more children, all boys with Ms Soto but I do not think he has any grandchildren in Cuba anymore. Fidelito, Castro' eldest son recently bought property i Chile , many of the regime's top people are moving family and fortunes abroad, Che Guevara's grandchildren are all now back in his native Argentina.

Cuba is a Democratic Socialist Republic in which people elect leaders at the grass roots level. 609 members serve five-year terms. The assembly meets twice a year, between sessions legislative power is held by 31 elected Ministers. Candidates for the Assembly are approved by public referendum at the grass roots "blockwatch" level known as CDRs. The President is elected by secret ballot. After the revolution victory 1959 there were three elected presidents prior to Fidel in 1976. Raul was elected in 2008. Seem strange? Please see American Political Families - this is very common in the USA- there have been thousands. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_political_families
