  • I went to an E-5 board. There were 3 on the board. Each took turns asking questions, some about facts and my job function, others about my opinion and views. Be professional above all. If you do not know the answer then the correct answer is "Sir, (or Sergeant) I do not know the answer but if you will allow me I will find out the answer and return to you with it". Be courteous, know your facing maneuvers and RELAX! It's not the end of the world if you screw up. These are the men standing beside you on the ground.
  • As you might expect, they'll throw some off-the-wall questions at you. Just prepare as best you can. Go in there looking sharp. Know your General Orders, the chain of command (especially the high ups), and if there are any NCO's on there who hate your guts, just do the best you know how. I'd still like to get even with an E-9 who screwed me on a direct warrant board in 1970. I met all the criteria to become a W-1 and he said my "military bearing" wasn't up to par. He was the only thumbs down, and it had to be unanimous. I had the go ahead from 2 Captains, a Major, and an LTC. What an ass!
