The most common way I ask questions is by using the spoken language in such a way that implies I'm requesting an answer. Another way is by using the written language, in which case I would use a question mark to indicate it's a question. Sometimes I ask questions in my own mind using just thought processes.

There is first an understanding that there is something you do not know. You then have the realization that you would like to know. While you might find out the 'hard way', you realize that another person might know and could impart the information much more quickly. You then use any communication skills you might have with the party whom you suspect could have the most reliable answer.

I usually end up doing something and having the attention span of a gnat, I wonder about something completely irrelevant while doing so. I could be vacuuming and wonder how they manufacture seat belts or something...
