Northampton has great culture and schools.

i would suggest a small town near the western state line.

I think I remember hearing that Holyoke was one of the safest communities in the US.

I would stay out of Holyoke. Northampton is kinda expensive cuz of all the college kids. Move outside of Springfield and you are 10 minutes from NoHo and 20 minutes from Hartford. Southwick is nice!
