This term soulmate seems to me a romantic term staight out of Cinderella. I prefer the term kindred spirits. I am married to the most wonderful man- 28 years this year- and we have a lot in common, but we also have a lot of differences. I am very musical, and my kindred spirit is the guy who was my guitarist in the band I was in in the 90s. He and I are like twins separated at birth- when we get together we are like a pair of DJS on speed yakking about music. My husband gets on equally well with his wife! But "soulmate"? Romance? No! Wayne and I had to laugh once when someone asked if we were married. My response: "The Universe would implode". Two of us in the same house? Recipe for madness!

Yes, I call him my soul's twin. We are very alike. We are the ones who can actually follow each others random thoughts. There is nothing between us but friendship. No sexual tension at all.

I don't quite understand the question. Why would a soulmate 'not' be a life partner? If it's just a dear beloved friend it isn't a soulmate, your other half.
