They are opportunistic birds. They'll eat just about anything, and they'll go where the food is.

Food. They aren't beach birds. That is just where they happened to live. But they can fly great distances out to sea to seek food, why not inland?

The name sea gulls is misleading, they just go any place there is food. They followed man inland because of all the trash we make.

Franklin's Gulls never see the sea. They are an inland gull. Parking lots, especially near restaurant's, and garbage dumps are favorite feeding grounds for inland gulls. See http://www.spwickstrom.com/seagull/ for more information.
